Q: How long have you been photographing weddings? I have been photographing weddings for two years as of August 2016. It’s so surreal that I started with a hand me down camera from my dad photographing families and now my work has evolved into weddings! (Although I still love the families that I work with) I never thought I would photograph weddings, to be honest, because of the stress and time it takes, but once you do one, you have to do them all because of how rewarding the results are.

Q: You’re a Colorado native, what’s your favorite part about living and working in Colorado The landscape is my canvas. I don’t have to supply backdrops because what better backdrop to have then the good ol’ Colorado mountains.

Q: Describe your day from start to finish on the day of a wedding? Well, I always wake up with butterflies. To this day, I still get nervous to photograph weddings. Why? Because they’re stressful and you want this day to be just as perfect as the bride does! I wake up, I grab my batteries that I’ve charged overnight, all of my backup equipment and all of my equipment that I use for weddings. I also grab the necessities: umbrella, rain boots, a change of clothes, a makeup bag and snacks and drinks. It’s so important to be prepared for anything because no matter the circumstances, the wedding must go on! I always arrive 30 minutes before I’m supposed to start whether it be a 4 hour day or a 10 hour day. I do this to give myself time to think and say a short prayer before beginning my work. Then it begins! I photograph details first, always. I then photograph bridal details (dress, rings, bouquets, etc.,) and move on to capture the groom. I love to do some bridals before the wedding and pictures with the bridal party. The ceremony then happens and then I whisk the bride and groom off to an open field, a wildflower haven or an old building to work my magic (these are my favorite). Then it’s the party, the cake cutting, the bouquet toss, the first dance and all of the sweet “firsts” that take place at the big day. I then go home, where I immediately upload the images as to ensure them to be on my computer and ready for edits when I decide to start. I never wait until the next day. It’s a system I’ve gotten myself into and I’m going to keep it that way! I can go to bed knowing the images are on my computer and already backed up on my external hard-drive. I double-check myself at every chance I can. Sometimes, I even snag a piece of cake to eat when I get home to reward myself for my hard work.

Q: How has shooting so many weddings impacted your life and relationships? I get to witness love happen every weekend during the Spring. I get to witness the beginning of something great so it makes me so thankful when I get to go home to my husband and think back to our special day and our long life together.

Q: What is your favorite memory from shooting a wedding? At a few weddings I’ve shot, I’ve gotten to witness emotional moments between the brides and their grandparents. Those are my favorite memories because my grandfather was unable to make it to my wedding and my other grandfather passed away 2 years after I got married so I am SO thankful that he got to be a part of my special day. It makes me grateful for moments when I can witness a tear falling down an 85 year old woman’s face as she watches her granddaughter walk down the aisle. I am usually crying behind the lens and I warn my brides before. I’ve heard guests yelling out “the photographer is crying!” and it goes to show that I am truly passionate about what I do. I don’t just point and shoot. I point, shoot and cry behind my lens.
